Great Escape Challenge

In partnership with Marie Curie Cancer Care, the
Great Escape Challenge is an ‘open access’ event
for companies to enter from across the UK.
Each May, companies across the UK enter teams of four who compete head-to-head as they hike, bike and canoe their way through the course completing a series of strategic, mental and physical team challenges. The course is designed specifically for business teams to test strategy & planning skills, communication, leadership, and decision-making under pressure. All designed exclusively for the Great Escape Challenge supported by a sophisticated electronic scoring system.
The Great Escape Challenge is designed for all employees - recent graduates through to Chief Executives have entered the event. Participating companies include many SME’s through to large organisations such as Northern Rock, BAA, HSBC and Credit Agricole. Many of these return bringing even more teams.
If you are an organisation considering Northstar’s approach to team development, this event presents the ideal opportunity to sample the way in which we approach the design of our team challenges. Martin Davies, the Chief Executive of Holidaybreak PLC entered the event himself in 2010 and liked what we did so much, we designed a team challenge for their Management Conference the following year.
Companies enter for a number of different reasons: these include raising morale, developing core business skills, supporting training & development programmes and strengthening internal relationships. Some companies also enter ‘joint’ teams with clients or business partners, creating the kind of inter-business relations you don’t get anywhere else. As well as being a great team development tool, it’s also a great adventure for individuals, with many feeding back that it’s one of the best things they’ve ever done.
